Presumably, they are using 512KB disk IO (the largest SATA transaction), thus 9 * 512KB = 4.5 MB. However, Nimble disk shelves contain 15 HDDs and 1 SSD, resulting in a RAID group on each expansion shelf of 12 data disks plus 2 parity.
